On her latest album, Girl On Fire, Alicia Keys sings about being “the brand new kind of me.”
It’s been a while, I’m not who I was before
You look surprised, your words don’t burn me anymore
Been meaning to tell you, but I guess it’s clear to see
Don’t be mad, it’s just the brand new kind of me
Can’t be bad, I found a brand new kind of free
It’s a great song and I think its something we should all strive for as we go into a New Year.
Brand New Year! Brand New Me! Brand New You!
Anything that we want to make better in our lives, anything that we want to change or do over we should commit to changing it now. Let us all be determined to let fear, insecurity and unbelief go. Let us instead embrace courage, strength and faith.
Let us all be determined to not enter the New Year carrying the same loads that held us back, let us down, beat us up in 2012. Let us instead enter 2013 armed with the knowledge and belief that we are strong, brave, unstoppable, created to soar high, dream big and able to do anything that we set our minds to do. Let us leave toxic relationships, broken dreams, wrong ways, dashed hearts, failed goals, faulty friends all behind.
Let us go forward with our eyes wide open, heads up, hearts healed and open; determined to live on purpose, full of love and grace, looking for glory.
The door of this old year has closed.
The door of a new year stands open. Let us enter it being “the brand new kind of me.”
