Women of the Word: Eve (Part 3)

Read Part 1 | Part 2
Today we look at the last two things we can learn from our first mother, Eve.

5. Eve was the perfect companion and helper. Adam was incomplete until Eve came along. Man today is incomplete without woman. This does not mean that every single man wants to or needs to get married but the world is 110% better off because God saw it fit to create women.

Eve supported Adam: she probably made him laugh, she helped care for the animals and tend the Garden. And even after the Fall, she continued to be a great help meet: she made their clothes, cooked the first meals, cleaned house, and gave birth to many children so humankind could continue.

In many parts of the world today, women are dissed and devalued. They are seen only as sex objects, bullied into being slaves, raped, beaten, mistreated, and cast aside with cracked hearts and bruised bodies. They are made to sit down, shut up, and remain quiet about their pain, dreams, aspirations, songs, and beliefs. This is not how God created women to be treated. He created us as man’s equal and in order for the world to be all it should be, it needs loved and valued women. Man can’t do it alone.

Sojourner Truth said: “If the first woman God ever made was strong enough to turn the world upside down, these women together ought to be able to turn it right again.” Jesus the Christ has already saved the world through His death, burial, and resurrection but until He returns to turn it right side up again, we can at least make it a better place. The world needs you, girl; and it needs you now.

6. Eve helped take care of God’s creation. After she was formed, Eve had equal responsibility with Adam to care for the Garden of Eden. God cared then and still cares now about the well-being of His creation.

As the descendants of Adam and Eve we have been given the task to care for the earth. This is something that we should not take lightly. As followers of Christ it is our duty to take care of the beautiful world God has blessed us with.
