Striving Toward Christlikeness

days-of-prayer

McLean Bible Church is currently in the middle of their yearly 31 Days of Prayer campaign. The devotionals they have posted each day this October have all been very encouraging but one of our favorites was yesterday’s post by John Davis which encourages us all to strive and become more like Jesus each day:

For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6 ESV NASB)

Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:12 NASB)

In his letter to the Philippian church, Paul urges believers to keep striving toward Christlikeness, pressing on toward the heavenly reward — eternal life with God. And yet, because of our imperfections and failures, we may easily become discouraged in our mission as disciples of Christ.

Because we belong to Christ, however, we can stand confidently on God’s promise that He will continue transforming us until the day Jesus returns. Rather than dwelling on our perceived inadequacies, let’s shift our focus to Christ. Let’s encourage one another to rely on the power and strength of the Holy Spirit as we evangelize and make disciples. God’s power is sufficient, and He promised to be faithful in completing the good work He started in us.

Pray today…
That you would be growing in maturity in Christ.
