Women of the Word: the Woman With the Flow of Blood

Matthew 9:20-23 and Luke 8:43-48 details the story of how a woman was healed by touching the hem of Jesus’ garment. The Bible says this woman had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her livelihood on physicians but could not be healed by any. Today, the woman’s sickness is known as a hemorrhage which is a condition in which a person bleeds too much and cannot stop the flow of blood.

The woman knew that she was seen as unclean, so she probably did not want to ask Jesus the Christ outright to heal her. However, she knew that she had to get to Jesus – somehow, someway. Even if she could not get Him to speak the word of healing, she had faith that if she could just touch the hem of His garment, she would be healed.

1. The woman with the flow of blood did not let the crowd keep her back from Jesus. The multitudes were thronging and pressing Jesus the Christ, but the woman did not let that deter her. She found a way to Jesus. She found a way to be healed. Because of her determined persistence, her faith was rewarded.

Do not let the crowd keep you back from Jesus. It is not enough to hear from others about Jesus. It is not enough for others to tell you they have been healed or influenced by Jesus. You must experience Jesus for yourself. You must feel His power.

Earnestly seek Him. Every day without fail find your way to Jesus somehow, someway.
