1 Year In God’s Word: Day 145 — Psalm 15-16, John 9:1-23

Psalm 15
Focus Verse: Who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken. (5)

Who is holy enough to approach the throne of God? The truth is that no one is. But because of His mercy, God has made it so that all who are righteous in heart can come boldly to the throne of grace and ask for whatever they need. All those who strive to do what is right and all those who strive to do what is just will be answered by God. They will not be moved.

Psalm 16
Focus Verse: I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. (8)

No matter what happens in your life or in the world, fix your eyes on Jesus. When He has your back, nothing and no one will be able to knock you off your feet. He will keep you safe. He will keep you secure.

John 9:1-23
Focus Verse: “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (3)

Many have questioned why God allows people to be born with defects and disabilities. If we’re all created in His image, shouldn’t we all come out fit and healthy? The supreme reason why some are either born with or develop negative physical conditions as they age is because of sin. When Eve and Adam disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, they screwed up everything for everyone. The roots of all the problems and faults we have today can be traced back to that fateful day in the Garden of Eden. When sin entered the world, death, defects, disease and disabilities came with it.

However, God is in the business of redemption. He constantly compensates for the defects of sin. He is masterful at bringing glory out of gloomy situations. God can bring beauty out of any body, no matter how broken that body may be. Why did God let Nick Vujicic be born with no arms and no legs? Why didn’t God protect Joni Eareckson Tada from becoming a quadriplegic when she dived into a lake at seventeen? Why did Lauren Hill have to suffer from terminal brain cancer?

Maybe it was so that others who feel useless in life would know “It’s a lie to think you’re not good enough. It’s a lie to think you’re not worth anything.

Maybe so when events left folks hurting they would know that “God is never closer than when your heart is aching.

Maybe so countless numbers of people would be inspired to ‘never give up, not even for a moment; to live and love with passion and desire.

Maybe so that the works of God might be displayed in them.
