Focus Verse: “Meaningless! Meaningless!” says the Teacher. “Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless.” (2)
Everything truly is meaningless. Only when Christ enters the scene does life begin to take on meaning. How can life hold meaning outside of the One Who made it?
Focus Verse: So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. (17)
All the knowledge we learn, all the work that we do, all that we may become means nothing if it is not done for Christ because only what is done for Him will last – not only in this life, but also in the next.
Focus Verse: I said to myself, “God will bring into judgment both the righteous and the wicked, for there will be a time for every activity, a time to judge every deed.” (17)
God will one day judge each one of us according to our deeds. This judgment has nothing to do with the status of our salvation and will not affect whether we go to heaven or hell. But it will be a sad day if those who call themselves followers of Jesus do not have any works to back up their words.
Focus Verse: All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” (21)
Are we shocked when a person has their heart and life transformed by Jesus? We shouldn’t be. Whenever someone truly repents and believes in Christ, their life is turned upside down and inside out by His mercy, forgiveness and grace. The blood of Jesus doesn’t just save; it changes.
