1 Year In God’s Word: Day 182 — Ecclesiastes 10-12, Acts 10:24-48

Ecclesiastes 10
Focus Verse: Do not revile the king even in your thoughts, or curse the rich in your bedroom, because a bird in the sky may carry your words, and a bird on the wing may report what you say. (20)

Be careful what you say even when you think no one is listening.

Ecclesiastes 11
Focus Verse: As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. (5)

We cannot see the wind. We have no control over it. Through science and technology, we have learned a lot about nature and a lot about our own bodies, but there is still so much that we do not understand. If we cannot comprehend how we were made, how can we expect to understand how God works? He created all things and He controls all things. His ways are past finding out.

Ecclesiastes 12
Focus Verse: Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind. (13)

In keeping the commandments of God we find completeness. We will only be whole when we fear God, love God and obey God; in this we find both meaning and purpose.

Acts 10:24-48
Focus Verse: All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name. (43)

It is true. God is not a respecter of persons. He does not favor one group of people over another. We get so caught up in our differences that it is easy to forget what we have in common. We are all sinners and Jesus the Christ died on the cross so that we all could be saved. Anyone who believes in Him – whether they are from Asia or Africa or Australia, whether they are Jew or Gentile, rich or poor, male or female, young or old – will receive forgiveness through the name of Jesus.
