1 Year In God’s Word: Day 195 — Amos 4-6, Galatians 1

Amos 4
Focus Verse: “I gave you empty stomachs in every city and lack of bread in every town, yet you have not returned to me,” declares the Lord. (6)

When we have gotten away from Him, God will go to great lengths to get us to return to Him. There’s a saying that goes: “Sometimes God lets you hit rock bottom so that you will discover that He is the rock at the bottom.”

Amos 5
Focus Verse: Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. (14)

When we pursue evil, God does not leave us. God is always with us, always watching us; but He is not in approval of our deeds. God is really with us when we pursue good. It is then that He approves of and supports our actions.

Amos 6
Focus Verse: You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph. (6)

We drink the best coffee brewed by Starbucks and wear some of the finest clothes, but have no concern for those around us who are lost and blind and being brought to ruin because they do not have salvation.

Galatians 1
Focus Verse: Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (10)

Our main goal in life should be to please God and bring Him glory through what we think, say and do. When we share the Gospel we do not do so to impress people, but to please God. We cannot change the Gospel message in order to win friends and influence people. We serve an audience of One.
