1 Year In God’s Word: Day 203 — Psalm 33, Psalm 43, Psalm 66, Philippians 1

Psalm 33
Focus Verse: May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you. (22)

Put your hope, trust and faith in the Creator instead of the people and things He created. Neither salvation nor safety can be found in anyone but our Savior.

Psalm 43
Focus Verse: Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (5)

When we are depressed or are disappointed about something, we can still choose to depend on God. He understands exactly how we feel. When we are hurting, we can still hope and praise the One Who is faithful to give light, love and care.

Psalm 66
Focus Verse: Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me. (16)

I wonder: When was the last time we told someone about all the good things God has done for us?

Philippians 1
Focus Verse: Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, to all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons. (1)

Paul and Timothy don’t describe themselves as missionaries of Christ or apostles or preachers or prophets or by any other name, but servants. Because they recognized themselves as being in the service of the Lord, it was not hard for them to accept the fact that He was in control of them and in control of what happened to them. That is why Paul can rejoice (verse 18) even though he is in chains. The only reason why He desires to live a little longer is so the Gospel can be advanced and so God can be glorified.

No matter what official title we may gain by working for Christ, we are first of all His servants. We exist to bring glory to Him. “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” – Mark 10:45
