1 Year In God’s Word: Day 211 — Psalm 113-115, 1 Thessalonians 3

Psalm 113
Focus Verse: He settles the childless woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord. (9)

God looks out for His people. He is near to the poor and the needy and the despised. He hears their prayers. He sees their tears. One day, he will turn their mourning into laughter and their grief into joy. He will give them all the good things that their hearts desired.

Psalm 114
Focus Verse: Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob. (7)

Did the sea flee because Israel came out of Egypt? Did the mountains leap because Jacob was delivered from a people of foreign tongue? No. Nature moved because it was God who was working on His people’s behalf. The impossible will happen for us too when God is on our side.

Psalm 115
Focus Verse: Not to us, Lord, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness. (1)

We are often unloving and unfaithful; therefore it is not us who should be glorified, but God. The love He has for us is everlasting and His faithfulness endures forever.

1 Thessalonians 3
Focus Verse: May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. (12)

May the Lord do the same for us. It is easy to be self-centered and only care for and love ourselves and what we are concerned about. But God did not create us for ourselves alone. May our love for Him increase. May our love for others increase. Others will know that we are followers of Jesus the Christ by how we love them.
