1 Year In God’s Word: Day 220 — Psalm 136, Psalm 146, 1 Corinthians 3

Psalm 136
Focus Verse: Give thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever. (26)

A simple statement is repeated in this psalm twenty-six times: His love endures forever. It is a reminder to us that no matter what happens and no matter what we do, the love of God towards us is constant and does not / cannot / will not change. He deserves our thanks for His faithfulness.

Psalm 146
Focus Verse: He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free. (7)

God feeds the hungry. He sets prisoners free. He gives sight to the blind. God still does this spiritually to all those who place their trust in Him. The spiritually hungry are satisfied with the Word of God. Those who are bound by and bowed down under the weight of sin, are set free by Christ.

1 Corinthians 3
Focus Verse: So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. (7)

In and of ourselves alone we are nothing. What we do amounts to nothing. God is everything. We may plant a seed of faith in a person’s life and someone else may water it, but only God has the power to make that seed flourish. We do not glory in our spiritual gifts, but in the Giver of them.
