1 Year In God’s Word: Day 221 — Psalm 147-148, 1 Corinthians 4

Psalm 147
Focus Verse: The Lord delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. (11)

Even though we should always strive to do our best and be our best for Him, God is not delighted in our good works or in our great strength or in our smart brains. He delights in those who fear Him, in those who place their hope in His unfailing love and in those who fully depend on His goodness instead of their own.

Psalm 148
Focus Verse: Let them praise the name of the Lord, for at his command they were created. (5)

All of creation is encouraged to praise its Creator. Nothing would be in existence today if God had not spoken and commanded “in the beginning.”

1 Corinthians 4
Focus Verse: When we are slandered, we answer kindly. We have become the scum of the earth, the garbage of the world—right up to this moment. (13)

From this chapter it seems to me that many of the Corinthian Christians were becoming rather puffed up with their spiritual gifts and their status in Christ. Paul had to reprimand them for their arrogance and remind them of what the kingdom of God is really about. We were not put in the world to reign, but to serve. If those who do not yet follow Jesus the Christ treat us unfairly, we respond with kindness and love.
