1 Chronicles 16
Focus Verse: Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced. (12)
We often act like God has not done anything for us. And that is why David called on the Israelites to remember and he is also calling on us to remember. Remember the wonders of God. Remember the miracles of God. Remember the promises of God. Remember the goodness, the faithfulness, and the salvation of God. When we are tempted to complain, we should choose to give thanks. Instead of asking, “God, what have You done for me lately?”, we should say, “God, thank you for all You have done for me!”
Focus Verse: Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. (5)
We should not allow life to discourage, disappoint or overwhelm us because we serve a living God. Even when situations look hopeless, there is always hope for those who choose to place their faith in Him. And in the times when we are downcast, we should remember God as David did.
Focus Verse: It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them. (3)
We are alive today because God’s Spirit lives within us. We have salvation because of the work that God’s Son did on the cross. We have victory over death because of Christ. We have the assurance of eternal life, not because of our own good works, but because of the love that God has for us. Therefore, we boast in Him and give praise to His name for the great things He has done for us.
1 Corinthians 10:1-18
Focus Verse: These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come. (11)
The Bible is filled with the stories of good people and the stories of some not so good people. It chronicles the successes and failures, the defeats and the victories. We are not to repeat the failures and defeats; those were written down as examples for us to learn from. We have been duly warned that disobedience only brings destruction and indulging in sin only brings death; God expects us to do better.
