1 Year In God’s Word: Day 229 — Psalm 45-47, 1 Corinthians 10:19-33

Psalm 45
Focus Verse: Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom. (6)

Our faith is not something that is temporary because God, and the place where He dwells, will last forever. When we choose to believe in Him, we are making a decision that positively affects our eternity.

Psalm 46
Focus Verse: Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. (2)

Come what may, we have no reason to be afraid. Why does fear have no control over us? We are given the answer in verse 1 of this chapter: Because God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.

Psalm 47
Focus Verse: God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets. (5)

This verse foreshadows the ascension of Jesus the Christ in the New Testament. The disciples, who were left standing on the Mount of Olives, weren’t exactly rejoicing when Jesus departed from them and returned to His throne in Heaven. But the angels certainly were. And God was happy to have His Son back home.

1 Corinthians 10:19-33
Focus Verse: So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. (31)

True followers of Christ cannot separate their faith from what they do. We should not only glorify God when we attend a church worship service or when we read the Bible or pray a prayer. But we should also glorify God when we eat a meal or drink a drink or exercise our bodies or watch a television show or go shopping. Our entire lives should be lived for the glory of God.
