1 Year In God’s Word: Day 230 — Psalm 48-50, 1 Corinthians 11:1-16

Psalm 48
Focus Verse: For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. (14)

Once we choose to become His people, God has promised to be our God for ever – not only for a day and not only for a year, not only during the times when we are good – but for ever. God will be our guide until the end of our days here on earth. After we die, He will no longer have to guide us because then we will be with Him for all of eternity.

Psalm 49
Focus Verse: But God will redeem me from the realm of the dead; he will surely take me to himself. (15)

Death will claim those who trust in themselves. Death will claim those who trust in wealth or wisdom, but death holds no power over those who trust in Christ. Only the person who believes in God for salvation will be redeemed from death and live forever.

Psalm 50
Focus Verse: When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you. (21)

With all the violent, unjust acts that take place in our world each day, it seems fair to ask: God, where are You? Why are You remaining silent for so long? But only unwise people think that God is on the side of evil. He will not stay silent forever. One day, God will turn His throne room into a court-house. The angels will arraign the wicked and the perfect, righteous and holy Judge of the entire universe will find them guilty; no one will be there to rescue them.

1 Corinthians 11:1-16
Focus Verse: Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ. (1)

Much has been said and written about leadership, but not so much about followship. As Christians, we are to follow the example of Christ. We are not to walk in front of Him or beside Him, but behind Him. We must be willing to accept direction and guidance from His Word and we must be willing to follow His way.
