1 Year In God’s Word: Day 233 — 1 Chronicles 17-19, 1 Corinthians 13

1 Chronicles 17
Focus Verse: And have done ever since the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also subdue all your enemies. “‘I declare to you that the Lord will build a house for you. (10)

When we try to make things happen on our own without God being with us, our efforts will almost always come to nothing. But when we let God build our house (meaning He gives us success, make us prosperous, and helps us find favor with people), our house will be established forever. Psalm 127:1 says as much: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.”

1 Chronicles 18
Focus Verse: He put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became subject to David. The Lord gave David victory wherever he went. (13)

God was pleased to give David victory wherever he went because David had a heart that sought to please the Lord in all he did.

1 Chronicles 19
Focus Verse: Be strong, and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.” (13)

In battles and in life in general, God is ultimately in control of the outcome of things. But He still requires that we do what we can and He requires that we do our best at what we can do.

1 Corinthians 13
Focus Verse: And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (13)

The greatest commandment is to love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. The second greatest commandment is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. We can prophesy and teach and serve and dispense wisdom all our days, but if we do not have love while doing these things, it means nothing. Love is not only greater than all else; it is the greatest. Love is everything.
