1 Year In God’s Word: Day 247 — 2 Chronicles 22, Joel 1, 2 Corinthians 9

2 Chronicles 22
Focus Verse: He did evil in the eyes of the Lord, as the house of Ahab had done, for after his father’s death they became his advisers, to his undoing. (4)

Verse 3 says Ahaziah was encouraged to do wickedly by his mother, Athaliah. He was also encouraged to do wickedly by his advisers. Listening to the evil instructions of those around him, led to Ahaziah’s undoing, downfall and death. As young Christians, it is important that we surround ourselves with people who will encourage us to do good, not evil. We should only listen to godly advice that will strengthen our faith and bring us closer to Christ.

Joel 1
Focus Verse: Declare a holy fast; call a sacred assembly. Summon the elders and all who live in the land to the house of the Lord your God, and cry out to the Lord. (14)

In this chapter the prophet Joel warns Israel of the terrible destruction of God’s coming judgment due to their persistent sin.

2 Corinthians 9
Focus Verse: And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. (8)

God is not a curmudgeon who owns the whole world, but sits in Heaven unwilling to share with the people He created. Neither is God a genie who magically appears when we pray to Him and grants our every wish. God is God – loving, generous, overflowing with blessings and good. He is fully able and eager to bless us abundantly so that we will be in need of nothing. He wants to bless us so that we can be a blessing to others – not just financially and materially, but also spiritually.
