1 Year In God’s Word: Day 251 — Isaiah 3-4, 2 Corinthians 12

Isaiah 3
Focus Verse: Tell the righteous it will be well with them, for they will enjoy the fruit of their deeds. (10)

Even in times of disaster, those who follow God will be kept safe. Amid oppression, He will continue to give them freedom. Amid uncertainty, He will always be their guide.

Isaiah 4
Focus Verse: Then the Lord will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over everything the glory will be a canopy. (5)

God is judging Israel, but He still shows them mercy. He will wash away the filth of their sin and cleanse them until they are clean. The canopy of His glory will be a balm to their wounds, a covering for their shame and a shelter from the storm.

2 Corinthians 12
Focus Verse: But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. (9)

We do not know what Paul’s thorn in the flesh was, but it must have been really painful. He asked God three times to deliver him from whatever it was. But God chose not to do so. Paul didn’t get angry at God for not granting his request. He did not stop preaching the Gospel because of his weakness. Instead, he embraced his weakness and boasted in his weakness so that through it God’s power could work through him. We should consider it an honor to say: “I am weak, but Thou (God) are strong.”

When we have a pain or problem in life that won’t go away, no matter how many times we pray about it, we should remember God’s words: “My grace is sufficient for you.” God is enough. His grace will satisfy our needs. He will give us the strength to fulfill the purpose He put us on earth to accomplish.
