1 Year In God’s Word: Day 254 — 2 Chronicles 29-30, Acts 19:21-41

2 Chronicles 29
Focus Verse: Then Hezekiah said, “You have now dedicated yourselves to the Lord. Come and bring sacrifices and thank offerings to the temple of the Lord.” So the assembly brought sacrifices and thank offerings, and all whose hearts were willing brought burnt offerings. (31)

It is God’s desire that we also dedicate ourselves to Him. He does not want us to sacrifice ourselves on an altar. Christ took care of all the sacrificing and shedding of blood once and for all when He died on the cross. But God does want us to offer our bodies as living sacrifices. This means we do not conform to the world, but to Christ; and we give Him control over every area of our lives to be used according to His purpose and for His glory.

2 Chronicles 30
Focus Verse: Do not be like your parents and your fellow Israelites, who were unfaithful to the Lord, the God of their ancestors, so that he made them an object of horror, as you see. (7)

Whether their actions are good, bad or in between, we do not have to be like our parents or our friends or someone we admire. We waste our original life when we try to make a copy of someone else’s life. There are only two people in the world who we should be like: Christ and ourselves. I should be like me. You should be like you. We all should be like Jesus the Christ. Instead of imitating the people around us, we can choose to do as Hezekiah instructed his people to do: return to the Lord, submit to the Lord and serve the Lord.

Acts 19:21-41
Focus Verse: The assembly was in confusion: Some were shouting one thing, some another. Most of the people did not even know why they were there. (32)

The silversmith Demetrius and a few other craftsmen riled up an entire assembly and most of the people in the assembly did not even know why they were riled up. No matter how large or noisy or mighty it may seem, don’t follow the crowd unless you know what the crowd stands for. Most times you will find that the crowd isn’t standing for matters of truth and justice. Most times you will find that it is necessary to stand alone.
