1 Year In God’s Word: Day 257 — Isaiah 9-10, Ephesians 1

Isaiah 9
Focus Verse: Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. (7)

Amid rebellion, violence and darkness, Isaiah’s prophecy in verse 6 came to pass. A child was born, a son was given. He is known even today as the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

However, Isaiah’s prophecy concerning Christ in verse 7 has not yet come to pass; but one day it will and we will be able to witness it. When Christ returns for the second time, He will reign over the entire earth from Jerusalem (David’s throne). Unlike the kingdoms we read about in history and unlike our current governments, Christ’s reign will be free of corruption and injustice. His reign will last forever just as God promised it would.

Isaiah 10
Focus Verse: Does the ax raise itself above the person who swings it, or the saw boast against the one who uses it? As if a rod were to wield the person who lifts it up, or a club brandish the one who is not wood! (15)

The above illustration shows how silly it is for us to boast about accomplishments that God has actually done through us. Imagine if your teacher praised your pencil for making a good grade on a test instead of praising you! We should recognize God’s power in our lives and always give Him the credit that is due Him.

Ephesians 1
Focus Verse: And his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength… (19)

The power that God used to raise Jesus the Christ from the dead is the same power that He makes available for us to do great things today. All those who believe in God have an eternal hope, a glorious inheritance and His incomparably great power.
