Focus Verse: I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. (14)
Isaiah is talking about Satan (before He became Satan) in this passage. Notice the main words in his heart’s speech: I WILL.
I will ascend to the heavens;
I will raise my throne above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon.
I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High.
There is no adulation about God. There is no talk or concern for others. Satan only had thoughts for himself, for his glory and for his fame. Selfishness and pride got Satan thrown out of Heaven and brought down to the realm of the dead. The minute we place ourselves and our dreams above God, we will fall.
Focus Verse: A prophecy against Moab: Ar in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! Kir in Moab is ruined, destroyed in a night! (1)
Isaiah prophesies that God’s wrath against sinful Moab will be swift and sure.
Focus Verse: In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it—one from the house of David—one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness. (5)
Even amid His wrath, God is also doing a good work. He will not destroy without building something better. While doing away with the arrogant, insolent throne of Moab, God also has plans to establish a throne in love and faithfulness whose King will judge in justice and righteousness.
Focus Verse: May have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. (18)
Paul desires for us to have a true understanding of just how much God loves us. We hear the words – God loves me; God loves you; God is love – so many times, but do we really know how wide and long His love is? Are we truly experiencing the height and depth of His love? When we have fully grasped the love of Christ, we will be left speechless because His love is LOVE – no strings attached; no ifs, ands, or buts; no requirement to change; no ulterior motives, day in and day out; 365 days a year; 24 hours a day. GOD LOVES US.
“We should be astonished at the goodness of God, stunned that He should bother to call us by name, our mouths wide open at His love, bewildered that at this very moment we are standing on holy ground.” – Brennan Manning
