1 Year In God’s Word: Day 263 — Isaiah 26-27, Ephesians 6

Isaiah 26
Focus Verse: Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal. (4)

Why should we trust in the Lord? Because the Lord Himself is the Rock eternal. It is better for us to place our faith in Someone Who is eternal and in Someone Who will last forever instead of placing our faith in temporary people and things. When our trust is in the Lord, we won’t focus on our problems or on negative people or situations. Our minds will be focused on God. To all who stay upward-minded, God promises to keep them in peace and not just any peace, but PERFECT peace.

Isaiah 27
Focus Verse: I, the Lord, watch over it; I water it continually. I guard it day and night so that no one may harm it. (3)

When Jesus the Christ reigns on earth, His Kingdom will be in Israel. Like a vineyard worker takes special care of his vineyard to make it fruitful, Christ will take special care of His people. As His children, Christ is also taking special care of us. He watches over us. He keeps us fed and watered by providing for all our needs. He protects us so that no one will hurt us.

Ephesians 6
Focus Verse: Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. (13)

As followers of Christ, we have a mission. It is found in the Great Commission. We are to go and make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe and obey God’s commandments. Because Satan does not want people to hear the Gospel and be saved, he will stop at nothing to hinder us from carrying out this mission. When Satan attacks, what are we to do? How can we fight against him and win?

First, Paul tells us that we must be strong – not in ourselves – but in the Lord. We must depend on His mighty power.

Second, Paul tells us to put on the whole armor of God.

Third, Paul doesn’t tell us to fight Satan. He just tells us to stand our ground against Satan. And even after we have done everything to stand, we must keep on standing. No matter how many times we get hit, we must keep on standing. No matter how many flaming arrows are thrown our way, we must keep standing. We don’t falter. We don’t fear. We don’t run away or hide. We do not retreat. We simply stand.
