1 Year In God’s Word: Day 276 — Isaiah 56-58, Romans 11:1-18

Isaiah 56
Focus Verse: This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. (1)

The salvation of the Lord enables us to do what is right and just.

Isaiah 57
Focus Verse: “There is no peace,” says my God, “for the wicked.” (21)

It is quite impossible to find peace when you are outside of the will of the Prince of Peace. The wicked are restless, but the righteous are never without peace.

Isaiah 58
Focus Verse: And if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. (10)

Do we fast only to be seen? Do we pray only to be noticed? If so, God will not honor our religious actions. But if we spend ourselves in behalf of the hungry, uplift the oppressed, clothe those who are naked and provide shelter for the poor wanderer, God will also take care of our needs.

Romans 11:1-18
Focus Verse: If some of the branches have been broken off, and you, though a wild olive shoot, have been grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing sap from the olive root. (17)

The temporary rejection of the Jews has allowed the Gentiles to be reconciled to God. The root is God. The branches are the Jews, but some of the Jews have sinned and as a result they have been broken off. This has made room for the Gentiles to be grafted in among God’s people through the Gospel.
