1 Year In God’s Word: Day 277 — Isaiah 59-61, Romans 11:19-36

Isaiah 59
Focus Verse: But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear. (2)

The first separation took place in the Garden of Eden. God had free fellowship with Adam and Eve, but after they disobeyed Him, that fellowship was broken. Because God is a holy and righteous God, He cannot stand sin. Sin always results in separation. God doesn’t hate sin for the sake of hating sin. God hates sin because it separates Him from us.

When we do what is wrong instead of what is right, sin constructs a barrier in our hearts and lives that separates us from God and His goodness. It abandons us to evil and darkness. But because of the immense love that God has for us, He made a way for that barrier to be replaced with a bridge. That bridge is Jesus the Christ.

Isaiah 60
Focus Verse: The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory. (19)

The book of Revelation tells of the day when Jesus the Christ will rule from the New Jerusalem. That city will not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God will give it light, and the Lamb will be its lamp. There will be no more night. The Lord God will provide everlasting light. And we will reign for ever and ever.

Isaiah 61
Focus Verse: The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners (1)

When Jesus the Christ came to earth, He applied this passage to Himself. The Holy Spirit of God gave Him the power to proclaim good news to the poor, to heal the sick, to free those who were bound by Satan, and to raise people from the dead. This same power is still available for us today. Jesus said that whoever believes in Him will do the same works He did and will do even greater things than He did.

Romans 11:19-36
Focus Verse: For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. (36)

It is through God that we exist. All things come from Him and all things were made for Him. For this reason, God deserves to be glorified. His wisdom and His knowledge, His mind and His thoughts run far deeper and higher than we can comprehend.
