1 Year In God’s Word: Day 279 — Isaiah 65-66, Romans 13

Isaiah 65
Focus Verse: “See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind. (17)

God will create a new Heaven and a new Earth where everyone who loves and believes in Him will live together as one. Imagine no more death, no more disease, no more grief – only gladness and rejoicing. None of the sad things of this old earth will be carried over into the new earth. We won’t even remember our past struggles, pain or tears.

Isaiah 66
Focus Verse: Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?” declares the Lord. “These are the ones I look on with favor: those who are humble and contrite in spirit, and who tremble at my word. (2)

In verse 1 of this chapter, God says that Heaven is His home. He dwells up above and He also dwells in the hearts of those who are humble and live in obedience to His Word. A broken and a contrite heart finds favor in the sight of God.

Romans 13
Focus Verse: For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and you will be commended. (3)

We won’t jump in fear whenever we see a police officer if we buckle up when we drive and stay under the speed limit. If we don’t cheat, steal and murder, we won’t live in fear of being locked up. If we are obedient to our parents, our teachers, our coaches and other people who are in authority over us, we won’t fear being punished. If we do the right thing, God’s commands hold no terror for us. It is only when we do wrong or desire to do wrong that we see law and authority figures as binding instead of liberating, as things to fear instead of things that give freedom.
