1 Year In God’s Word: Day 287 — Nahum 1-3, Acts 23:1-15

Nahum 1
Focus Verse: Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away.” (13)

This verse is talking about God freeing His chosen people, Judah, from being in bondage to Nineveh. But it can also go for us. We are God’s people; however, Satan still has a lot of us in bondage. All too often the weights of this life still manage to drag us back and hold us down. Many Christians are spiritually free (through Christ), but are still living in mental, physical or financial bondage. This does not in any way negate the fact that they are saved. Once we make the decision to believe in Jesus the Christ, we are given salvation and freedom from past, present and future sins – nothing can ever change that. And when this earth passes away, God will break every one of Satan’s yokes. He will tear all of Satan’s shackles away and every one of us will be able to dance.

Nahum 2
Focus Verse: “I am against you,” declares the Lord Almighty. “I will burn up your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions. I will leave you no prey on the earth. The voices of your messengers will no longer be heard.” (13)

I am a firm believer that there is ALWAYS hope, but if ever there is a time when hope dies, it is when one has been forsaken by God. It is an awful thing to have the Lord of all the Earth against you.

Nahum 3
Focus Verse: Are you better than Thebes, situated on the Nile, with water around her? The river was her defense, the waters her wall. (8)

No city can build a defense so great that God cannot destroy. Likewise, no human can become so secure in financial wealth, material goods or fame, that God cannot reach them.

Acts 23:1-15
Focus Verse: The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage! As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.” (11)

Paul was going through a lot at the moment. His enemies put together a plot to kill him, but the Lord encouraged him to stay strong. Paul had testified about God in Jerusalem and the Lord assured him that he would live to also testify in Rome. If God has a mission for you to accomplish (which He does), He will not allow anyone or anything to take away your life until it has been accomplished. Like Paul, you may go through hard times, your health may fail and a few folks may turn against you, but God holds your life in His hands. He wants you to keep the faith and finish the race.
