1 Year In God’s Word: Day 289 — Zephaniah 1-3, Acts 24

Zephaniah 1
Focus Verse: Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to save them on the day of the Lord’s wrath.” In the fire of his jealousy the whole earth will be consumed, for he will make a sudden end of all who live on the earth. (18)

Zephaniah prophesies a word from the Lord to the people of Judah. Because of their sins, God will punish them and nothing will be able to save them from His wrath.

Zephaniah 2
Focus Verse: Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be sheltered on the day of the Lord’s anger. (3)

God does not send punishment without first giving a chance for His people to repent. If we are humble and seek righteousness, we will never have to feel His wrath.

Zephaniah 3
Focus Verse: The Lord within her is righteous; he does no wrong. Morning by morning he dispenses his justice, and every new day he does not fail, yet the unrighteous know no shame. (5)

God’s righteousness is not dependent on our righteousness. When we do wrong, He still does right. Each morning He distributes His justice and every day His faithfulness is on full display.

Acts 24
Focus Verse: Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish. He sent for Paul and listened to him as he spoke about faith in Christ Jesus. (24)

It did not matter who he was speaking before or in what country he was speaking, Paul made it a point to share his faith. The main job of every believer is to obey the Great Commission by making disciples of all people for Jesus the Christ. Whenever we get the opportunity, whether standing before a nation’s president in a palace or sitting beside a homeless person in a park, we ought to speak about our faith. Both our words and our actions should proclaim the Gospel.
