1 Year In God’s Word: Day 295 — Jeremiah 9-10, Jeremiah 14, Colossians 1

Jeremiah 9
Focus Verse: But let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord. (24)

We don’t need to boast about our wisdom or our strength or our riches. If we’re going to boast about anything, it needs to be about our Lord. There is nothing greater than knowing Him.

Jeremiah 10
Focus Verse: Lord, I know that people’s lives are not their own; it is not for them to direct their steps. (23)

It is wise for us to acknowledge just how much we are not in control of our lives. We did not make ourselves, so we cannot own ourselves. We can make plans (and we should), but it is God who determines our steps.

Jeremiah 14
Focus Verse: “Speak this word to them: “‘Let my eyes overflow with tears night and day without ceasing; for the Virgin Daughter, my people, has suffered a grievous wound, a crushing blow. (17)

When God has to mete out punishment to His people because of their sins, He does not do so with a gleeful heart. He weeps over our shortcomings. He sheds tears for hearts that have turned away from Him. He longs for us to love and obey Him so that He can bless us and give us the best.

Colossians 1
Focus Verse: So that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God. (10)

The Holy Spirit gives wisdom and understanding so we can know the will that God has for our lives. We should constantly strive with our words, actions and appearance, to live lives that are worthy of Him. All that we do, all that we say and all that we are should please Him. And we should be continually growing in our knowledge of God. Our faith shouldn’t become stagnant. A growing faith can be seen by the fruit we bear through good works.
