1 Year In God’s Word: Day 296 — Jeremiah 15-17, Colossians 2

Jeremiah 15
Focus Verse: I will make you a wall to this people, a fortified wall of bronze; they will fight against you but will not overcome you, for I am with you to rescue and save you,” declares the Lord. (20)

The prophet Jeremiah was becoming depressed over the assignment God had given him. Even though Jeremiah was obedient to God and spoke the words God told him to speak, he still experienced persecution and suffering. He goes through unending pain and loneliness. But God assures Jeremiah that He will take care of him. God will not allow Jeremiah’s haters to overcome him. God will rescue and save Jeremiah from the hands of the wicked and the grasp of the cruel.

Jeremiah 16
Focus Verse: So I will throw you out of this land into a land neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will serve other gods day and night, for I will show you no favor.’ (13)

God will not show mercy where there is not genuine repentance.

Jeremiah 17
Focus Verse: “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. (7)

What a contrast between the person who trusts in people and those who trust in the Lord. The person who trusts in people is cursed; the person who trusts in the Lord is blessed. The person who gets strength from himself or herself is like a tree planted in a desert land – never prospering, always parched. The person who gets strength from the Lord is like a tree planted by water – forever flourishing, without fear or worry.

Colossians 2
Focus Verse: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him (6)

After receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, we must continue to live in Him and walk with Him each day of our lives. When we give Christ our sins in exchange for His salvation, that is a one-time transaction, that can not be undone. But it is still up to us to make a decision each day to follow Him, grow in Him and have our faith in Him strengthened.
