1 Year In God’s Word: Day 299 — Jeremiah 25, Jeremiah 45-46, Hebrews 1

Jeremiah 25
Focus Verse: “But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused my anger with what your hands have made, and you have brought harm to yourselves.” (7)

In disobeying the Lord, we only end up hurting ourselves. Not listening to God’s Word harms our present lives, our future; and it can also bring harm to others around us.

Jeremiah 45
Focus Verse: Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.'” (45)

Baruch was Jeremiah’s faithful scribe who wrote down all the messages that God gave to Jeremiah to put on scrolls. Because Jeremiah was disliked for his words of doom and destruction, Baruch was probably also disliked and had few friends. Baruch was getting worn out and restless with his situation, but Jeremiah reminds him not to seek great things for himself. When God brings disaster on the people of Israel/Judah for their sins, He promises to spare Baruch’s life.

Jeremiah 46
Focus Verse: Do not be afraid, Jacob my servant, for I am with you,” declares the Lord. “Though I completely destroy all the nations among which I scatter you, I will not completely destroy you. I will discipline you but only in due measure; I will not let you go entirely unpunished.” (28)

The punishment that God will bring upon Egypt is described in this chapter. God will also punish Israel on account of their unfaithfulness and disobedience. But because of the covenant He made with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and because of the promises He made to David, God will not destroy His people completely.

Hebrews 1
Focus Verse: So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. (4)

Jesus the Christ is not an angel. He is God and He is superior to the angels in every way. Jesus the Christ is both Son of God and God the Son. He radiates deity. The universe was made through Him, He sustains all things, and He is the risen Savior for all humankind. For these reasons, He is more powerful and deserves more praise than any angel. God commands all of Heaven’s angels to worship His Son. How much more should we?
