1 Year In God’s Word: Day 300 — Jeremiah 47-48, Hebrews 2

Jeremiah 47
Focus Verse: This is the word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines before Pharaoh attacked Gaza: (1)

In the previous chapter (46), God had a message of punishment for Egypt. Now He has one for the Philistines.

Jeremiah 48
Focus Verse: The destroyer will come against every town, and not a town will escape. The valley will be ruined and the plateau destroyed, because the Lord has spoken. (8)

After giving a message to Egypt and the Philistines, God now has a message for Moab. We should take the Word of God seriously and believe it because everything that He has said – good or bad – has or will come to pass.

Hebrews 2
Focus Verse: For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. (17)

The angels of Heaven were not (are not) in need of salvation, so Jesus the Christ did not have to become like them in order to help them. We humans were the ones in need of help, so Jesus the Christ became like us in every way. He became flesh and blood. He shared in the tears, the joys, the hardships, the temptations, the hatred, the love, and the disappointments of humanity. He experienced birth and life. He experienced death and the grave. Because He was tempted, He is able to help us when we are tempted. Because He cried, He is able to comfort us when we weep. Because He died, He is able to free us from the slavery of death.
