1 Year In God’s Word: Day 302 — Jeremiah 23-24, Hebrews 4

Jeremiah 23
Focus Verse: “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land. (5)

The righteous Branch who the Lord will raise up is none other than Jesus the Christ. When He reigns on earth from Jerusalem, His people (the sheep) will no longer be destroyed or scattered. They will no longer be afraid or terrified. They will be tended by and cared for by the Good Shepherd.

Jeremiah 24
Focus Verse: My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. (6)

Even while they are in a distant land, God promises to watch over those who seek to know Him and follow Him with all their heart. God’s protection and goodness is not dependent on a place, but people. Wherever you go, wherever you are – if you have a heart to know God – He will watch over you, build you up, and plant you like a basket of good figs.

Hebrews 4
Focus Verse: Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. (11)

The Israelites experienced temporary rest from wandering and war when they entered the Promised Land. In remembering the Sabbath day, we receive a weekly rest from our work. But only those who believe in Jesus the Christ are promised an eternal rest in Heaven. By shunning disobedience and embracing faith, we can enter that rest.
