1 Year In God’s Word: Day 331 — Ezekiel 30-32, 1 Peter 4

Ezekiel 30
Focus Verse: Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break both his arms, the good arm as well as the broken one, and make the sword fall from his hand. (22)

God brings destruction to Egypt and leaves Pharaoh powerless. The people of this nation only acknowledge God as the Lord when He brings judgment on them.

Ezekiel 31
Focus Verse: “‘Which of the trees of Eden can be compared with you in splendor and majesty? Yet you, too, will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the earth below; you will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword. “‘This is Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the Sovereign Lord.'” (18)

Egypt will fall, just as the once majestic and mighty Assyria fell.

Ezekiel 32
Focus Verse: “Edom is there, her kings and all her princes; despite their power, they are laid with those killed by the sword. They lie with the uncircumcised, with those who go down to the pit. (29)

King or prince. Master or servant. It doesn’t matter what one’s lot in life is, everyone will eventually die and face God’s judgment. No amount of power can prevent the inevitable.

1 Peter 4
Focus Verse: However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. (16)

Followers of Jesus the Christ ought not to be shocked when faced with persecution. It isn’t strange to suffer for the One Who willingly suffered for us. Paul says that when we are insulted for naming the name of Christ, we are actually blessed. It is a joy to share in the sufferings of Christ; therefore, we do not endure persecution with the shame that a murderer or thief may face their punishment. We praise God that we have the opportunity to suffer according to His will.
