Focus Verse: Then you will know that I the Lord have heard all the contemptible things you have said against the mountains of Israel. You said, “They have been laid waste and have been given over to us to devour.” (12)
God will judge Edom for the blasphemous things they have said against Him. He will judge them for the hostile way they have treated His people.
Focus Verse: “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. (22)
God promises to restore and rebuild Israel not because they have been an obedient people, but because He is a faithful God. God was extremely displeased with Israel’s conduct, but for the sake of His holy name He will prosper them so that all the nations will know He is God. Likewise, God does not always bless us because we are doing everything perfectly. Sometimes He blesses us because He wants those who do not yet acknowledge Him to see His power at work in our lives and come to know that He is God.
2 Peter 1
Focus Verse: For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (8)
We must not just have faith. We must also add to our faith goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, mutual affection, and love. Having all of these things is our possession will keep us from being ineffective and unproductive followers of Jesus the Christ.
