1 Year In God’s Word: Day 338 — Ezekiel 47-48, 1 John 3

Ezekiel 47
Focus Verse: Swarms of living creatures will live wherever the river flows. There will be large numbers of fish, because this water flows there and makes the salt water fresh; so where the river flows everything will live. (9)

Ezekiel is shown a river flowing out from the temple that has the power to turn salty water fresh and make everything that it touches come alive – fish, fruit trees, and swarms of living creatures. Up in the New Testament, Jesus the Christ promised that anyone who believes in Him will have rivers of living water flowing out of their heart.

Ezekiel 48
Focus Verse: “The distance all around will be 18,000 cubits. “And the name of the city from that time on will be: the Lord is there.” (35)

Here Ezekiel’s book comes to an end, but with the promise that the Lord will restore all of Israel and will dwell with them in their land. They will be His people. He will be their God.

1 John 3
Focus Verse: This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. (16)

What is love? Love is Jesus the Christ dying on the cross for you and me. There is no greater love than this. We may not be called to physically die for someone, but we can show the same love that Jesus showed by selflessly putting others before ourselves.
