1 Year In God’s Word: Day 343 — Zechariah 5-8, Jude 1

Zechariah 5
Focus Verse: And he said to me, “This is the curse that is going out over the whole land; for according to what it says on one side, every thief will be banished, and according to what it says on the other, everyone who swears falsely will be banished. (3)

Some Bible scholars have said that this scroll is a reference to God’s Word. God’s Word curses all sin, and in the end His Word will destroy all sin completely.

Zechariah 6
Focus Verse: The angel answered me, “These are the four spirits of heaven, going out from standing in the presence of the Lord of the whole world.” (5)

The four powerful chariot horses – red ones, black ones, white ones, and dappled ones – are a reference to the four spirits of Heaven or angels. They are to go throughout the earth and bring God’s judgment. A similar representation is given in the book of Revelation.

Zechariah 7
Focus Verse: “This is what the Lord Almighty said: ‘Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another. (9)

These are the things that God wanted His people and now us, as His adopted people, to do. We are to give true justice. We are to show mercy. We are to show compassion to one another. We are not to oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. We are not to plot evil against each other. May we not be like those who refused to pay attention to God’s commands. May we not turn our backs or cover our ears to the things that God wants us to do.

Zechariah 8
Focus Verse: This is what the Lord says: “I will return to Zion and dwell in Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the Faithful City, and the mountain of the Lord Almighty will be called the Holy Mountain.” (3)

It seems impossible that Jerusalem will ever have peace. It may seem marvelous to us that the entire city will one day be united under the leadership of the Lord Almighty. But it is not marvelous to God. Nothing is impossible with Him.

Jude 1
Focus Verse: To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— (24)

We can be confident in our eternal security not because of our own goodness, but because of the glory, majesty, power and authority of Jesus the Christ. He will keep us from stumbling. He will prevent us from falling. He will carry us through this life and into Heaven, presenting us to His Father without fault and with great joy.
