Focus Verse: Dispatches were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with the order to destroy, kill and annihilate all the Jews—young and old, women and children—on a single day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods. (13)
From Haman to Hitler, evil people have always tried to rid the earth of the people of God, yet none of them have been successful. No effort to exterminate the Jews will ever be successful. Perhaps the most frightening thing about Haman’s plot and Hitler’s plot, was that they were able to easily persuade a vast number of people to aid them in their evil. It is imperative that we think for ourselves. Laws must be examined critically before they are obeyed, and even those who are in positions of power must have their actions questioned.
Focus Verse: For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (14)
As we noted yesterday, Esther may not have understood why God allowed her to be chosen as King Xerxes’ next queen. But God knew why she was chosen. Before she was even born, God foresaw Haman’s evil plot and destined her to come to her royal position so that His people would be saved. Just as God created Esther for her moment, God has created you for your moment.
Focus Verse: But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting at the king’s gate.” (13)
Haman didn’t have to have Mordecai impaled as his wife, Zeresh, and all his friends suggested. Because of the hate he had in his heart toward him, Mordecai was already good as dead. We should not let hate live in our hearts because hate can push us to do awful things. 1 John 3:15 says, “Anyone who hates a brother or sister is a murderer.”
Focus Verse: “If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.” This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God’s people. (10)
The beast that comes out of the sea is the Antichrist. During the time that he is in power on earth, God’s name and all things God-related will be blasphemed, slandered, and disparaged like never before. For those who are God’s people, all will seem hopeless and their cause will seem lost because the Antichrist will wage war against them and actually conquer them. It will take patience and faithfulness for God’s people to endure the persecution of the Antichrist.
