1 Year In God’s Word: Day 360 — Nehemiah 4-6, Revelation 17

Nehemiah 4
Focus Verse: After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, “Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.” (14)

Whenever we are apart of doing some work for the Lord, whether great or small, we can expect to face opposition. Satan, who is the father of lies and all things evil, is against any good work and he is certainly against those who are God’s people. However, instead of focusing on him, we should do as Nehemiah encouraged the wallbuilders to do and focus on the Lord. There is no need to be afraid of our enemies. Instead of focusing on Satan, we should focus on our Savior for He is great and awesome.

Nehemiah 5
Focus Verse: But the earlier governors—those preceding me—placed a heavy burden on the people and took forty shekels of silver from them in addition to food and wine. Their assistants also lorded it over the people. But out of reverence for God I did not act like that. (15)

All of the governors who had ruled before Nehemiah had engaged in dishonest, corrupt practices. Nehemiah did not continue this ungodly streak. He purposely choose not to act like the earlier governors out of deep respect for God. Our righteous fear and respect for the One Who made us ought to keep us from hurting others and participating in dishonest gain.

Nehemiah 6
Focus Verse: They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.” But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.” (9)

Nehemiah answered his enemies’ threats and intimidation with prayer. He did not give in to fear and do what Sanballat, Tobiah, and the rest wanted him to do. He remained dependent on God. Because God strengthened him and the other wallbuilders, the work was completed in fifty-two days.

Revelation 17
Focus Verse: They will wage war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will triumph over them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.” (14)

When God triumphs over His enemies, we also will be there to triumph with Him. All those who live for Him on earth, will also reign with Him in Heaven.
