Focus Verse: “When the neighboring peoples bring merchandise or grain to sell on the Sabbath, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or on any holy day. Every seventh year we will forgo working the land and will cancel all debts. (31)
Even though we are not under the same commands, regulations and decrees as the Israelites were, it is still important that we remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy. God was the first to set aside a day of rest after He created the world. We ought not to be so busy or have so much to do that we cannot set aside one day of the week to rest, reflect and remember God.
Focus Verse: Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem. The rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of every ten of them to live in Jerusalem, the holy city, while the remaining nine were to stay in their own towns. (1)
After years of being scattered in other lands, among other people, the people of Israel begin to populate their own land and the city of Jerusalem once again.
Focus Verse: I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and wages war. (11)
Jesus the Christ is faithful and true. These aren’t just two more names for Him. They are His nature. Christ can’t help but be anything else. Since He is our perfect example, we are to imitate His character by being faithful to what He has called us to do. We are also to be true to Him, to others, and in our words and writings.
