New Testament In a Year: January 3 – Matthew 3

Matthew 3
Before Paul wrote “all have sinned” over in Romans 3, John the Baptist realized that he was a sinner and in need of Christ’s salvation. He was taken aback when Jesus came to him for baptism. “I need to be baptized by you,” he said, “and do you come to me?” John the Baptist did not just want Jesus to baptize him with water. He wanted to be baptized in His blood so his sins could be washed away. He wanted to be baptized with the Holy Spirit and fire. May we all readily recognize our need for a Savior.

Favorite verse: (17) And behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
