New Testament In a Year: January 4 – Matthew 4

Matthew 4
Jesus the Christ was tempted while He was here on earth. We can expect to be tempted too. However, God is faithful, and He will not let us be tempted beyond what we can handle. One of the things that God has given us to combat temptation is His Holy Word. Every time Satan presented Jesus with a new temptation, Jesus responded with what was written in Scripture.

In verse 6, we read that Satan also used two different Scriptures in his failed attempt to tempt Jesus. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Even the devils believe and tremble. Because he doesn’t have a book of his own, Satan often twists the words in God’s book to his own advantage. No matter the situation, we must respond to temptation with Scripture and keep responding with Scripture until it goes away.

Favorite verse: (16) The people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.”
