New Testament In a Year: January 8 – Matthew 6:19-34

Matthew 6:19-34
When our treasure is on earth, our hearts will also be tied to earth. But when our treasure is in Heaven, our hearts will also be tied to Heaven. God wants our hearts to be heaven-bound.

We cannot say that we are serving God when in truth we are pursuing money, power, or fame. We cannot serve God and something else. It must be Him and nothing else. Only when we choose God first and foremost and seek His kingdom before anything else, will “all these things” be added unto us.

Jesus’ command of “do not be anxious” seems simple enough to follow. But sometimes it is easier said than done. Even though it won’t do us any good, it seems more conducive for us to worry about what we will eat or what we will wear instead of leaving it in the hands of a God we cannot see. But Jesus’ commands are not grievous. Each one of His words are designed to help us, not hurt us, and to bless us, not curse us.

Favorite verse: (33) But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
