New Testament In a Year: February 24 – Mark 4:21-41

Mark 4:21-41
(21-25) A Lamp Under a Basket
God’s Word is light and truth. He did not give us the truth of His Word for us to hide it, but to share and spread it as far and wide as we can. It is also important for us to pay attention and to take heed to others who teach God’s Word. What we expect of God’s Word is what we will get from it.

(26-29) The Parable of the Seed Growing
How is the kingdom of God like a seed? When a seed is planted, the person who planted it does not see or know exactly how it grows. For a long time, it seems like nothing is even happening. Of course, it is aided by soil, sunlight, air, and water, but it is the seed itself that does the growing. The Word of God works like a growing seed. It influences, inspires, challenges, and changes us and others, but we cannot always see or understand exactly how it does those things. We must have faith in the invisible wonder-working power of our Creator.

(35-41) Jesus Calms a Storm
Jesus the Christ questioned His disciples’ faith because of their visible fear. The two (faith + fear) cannot coexist.

Favorite verse: (41) And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
