Luke 3
(1-22) John the Baptist Prepares the Way
In John the Baptist’s preaching on repentance, he told all people who heard him that true repentance is not shown through spoken words, but through active deeds. The crowds were instructed to share their clothes and food. The tax collectors were told not to collect more than was authorized. And the soldiers were told to be content and not extort money. True repentance is not just saying, “I’m sorry for my sins.” True repentance is turning from sin to the Savior and salvation.

(23-38) The Genealogy of Jesus Christ
Apart from stumbling over most of the names, reading the Biblical genealogies is always fun. Matthew 1 is my favorite, and this one in Luke is my second favorite. It’s fascinating to see how Jesus’ human line of descent is traced all the way back to God Himself. I also find it fascinating that Adam is called the son of God in this passage. Adam was the first “created” son of God, but Jesus the Christ is the only begotten son of God.

Favorite verse: (38) The son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.
