(1-18) The Word Became Flesh
In the beginning, Jesus the Christ was there. He was with God when God created the world. He was God. Everything was made through Him and nothing was made without Him. In Christ there is life – not the life we are used to, but new and eternal life, life that is light. John the Baptist was sent from God to bear witness of this light. What does it mean to bear witness? It means to testify, to give evidence, to show. If something bears witness to a fact, it proves that it is true.
The words which John the Baptist spoke proved that Christ was the true light. When He came into the world, John testified that Christ was who He said He was. Unfortunately, John’s testimony was not accepted by all. Christ came into the world that He made and was rejected by His own people. Yet His coming was not in vain because all those who believe in Him are made children of God. We are born of flesh and blood and water, and REborn of God.
