Taylor Swift Theology: Stay Beautiful

“Stay Beautiful” is the eighth track from Taylor’s 2006 self-titled debut album, Taylor Swift.

People watching, or more specifically, person watching inspired this song. Taylor wrote it after observing a guy who she thought was cute, but didn’t talk to that much and never dated. “In other words,” she said, “you don’t have to date someone to write a song about them.”

Cory’s eyes are like a jungle
He smiles, it’s like the radio
He whispers songs into my window
In words that nobody knows
These pretty girls on every corner
They watch him as he’s walking home
Saying, “Does he know?”
Will you ever know?

There are some unforgettable people who are only in our lives for a moment, but change us forever. Their appearance is like sunshine on a rainy day. Their smile makes us smile. They are beautiful and considerate without trying to be so, which makes us wonder “Do they even know?” Even when these unforgettable people aren’t interacting directly with us, their actions still manage to make our day.

If you and I are a story
That never gets told
If what you are is a daydream
I’ll never get to hold
At least you’ll know

When God places beautiful people into our lives, we should be grateful for them. Even if they don’t remain with us forever, we should let them know how much we appreciate them while we have them. Markus Zusak said, “Sometimes people are beautiful. Not in looks. Not in what they say. Just in what they are.”
