In this Scripture passage, the fifth and the sixth trumpets are blown. The blowing of the fifth trumpet releases locust-like creatures on the earth. These creatures are given power to hurt those who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. A lot of havoc and harm is being caused from the opening of the seven seals and the blowing of the seven trumpets, but through all of this, God is still in control. Death and disease and darkness go where He tells them to go and do what He tells them to do, and no more. The locust-like creatures are only able to hurt those who are not God’s people. But they do not have the power to kill their victims and the hurt they cause will only last for five months. This is a reminder for us that no one, good or evil, has any power a part from what God gives them.
The blowing of the sixth trumpet releases four angels on earth to kill a third of humankind. Unfortunately, those who are not killed refuse to turn to Christ. They do not stop worshipping false gods. They do not repent of their sins.
