New Testament In a Year: December 21 – Revelation 13

Revelation 13
(1-10) The First Beast
From out of the sea, John sees a beast rising. This beast is the Antichrist who is given the power, throne, and great authority of the dragon (Satan). The beast has ten horns and seven heads, one of which is mortally wounded. When the mortally wounded head is healed, the world marvels at the “power” of the beast. The world worships both the beast and the dragon, putting them in the place of the true God.

For 42 months, the beast speaks haughty and blasphemous words against God. It blasphemes His name, His dwelling which is Heaven, and those who are in Heaven. It has absolutely no respect or fear of God. The beast also goes to war against those believers who are still on earth and is able to conquer them. During this time of great evil, believers are called to endure and have faith. They must remember that no matter how great the Antichrist and Satan may seem at the moment, God is greater still.

(11-18) The Second Beast
From out of the earth, John sees a second beast rising. This beast is sort of like the first beast’s little minion. It deceives all those who live on earth and makes them worship the first beast. Those who refuse to worship the first beast, are killed. Those who do worship the first beast are branded on their right hands or on their foreheads with the name or number of the first beast.

Favorite verse: (10) If anyone is to be taken captive, to captivity he goes; if anyone is to be slain with the sword, with the sword must he be slain. Here is a call for the endurance and faith of the saints.
