Old Testament In a Year: February 6 – Genesis 49, 50

Genesis 49, 50
Focus Verse: And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die, but God will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land that he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.” – Genesis 50:24

Earth is home, but it is not your home.

Regardless of what you attain or how high you go down here, remember that you are a stranger and a sojourner. Even though Joseph became prime minister of Egypt, married an Egyptian woman, had biracial children, and brought his family to live in Egypt, he never forgot who he was or who his God was. He never lost his identity. He never abandoned his faith. He knew that Egypt was not his land. The Egyptian gods were not his God. The Egyptian people were not his people.

Joseph looked ahead and believed the promise that God had given to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He believed God would visit their descendants and make of them a great nation. He looked for a better land, and when that land was inherited, he wanted to be carried into that land.

Your citizenship is above, in a Heavenly land that God promised you will one day inherit.

With faith and confidence, look for this better land, of which the architect and builder is God. He is preparing an eternal place for you, and fashioning a crown that you will wear forever.

When He is finished preparing and fashioning, designing and building, He will visit you and bring you up out of this land to the land above.

Where He is, you will be also. Forever.
