Old Testament In a Year: March 4 – Leviticus 17, 18

Leviticus 17, 18
Focus Verse: For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it for you on the altar to make atonement for your souls, for it is the blood that makes atonement by the life. – Leviticus 17:11

The destroyer seeks only to steal and kill and destroy. Steal your soul. Kill your body. Destroy your life.

The destroyer cuts through flesh to get to the source of life – your blood. It cuts and cuts – through broken relationships, bad habits, hang-ups, addictions, and unbelief – hoping that you bleed to death. Hoping that your muscles stop contracting, your breathing ceases, your heart stops beating, and death conquers life.

But then, Christ steps in. He binds your cuts. Puts a stop to the bleeding. He gives you a blood transfusion, replacing your depleted sin-tainted blood with his abundant perfect blood.

Your muscles become stronger. You can breathe freely. Your heart is beating stronger than ever. And death, which once seemed inevitable, has lost its sting. Life has the victory. Once, you were broken, but Jesus’ blood made you whole; you were doomed to die, but His blood redeemed you to live.

There was no other way for Jesus the Christ to make atonement for you than by shedding His blood. It is His blood that reconciled your soul to God’s spirit and atoned for not only your physical life, but your spiritual life, as well.

There is eternal life-giving and life-sustaining power in the blood of Jesus.
